All About Allergic Reactions

An attack of allergies has been known time and again to kill a victim very rapidly and suddenly, giving him no time to react to it. Uncomfortable symptoms in a person that is sensitive to an allergen results in an allergic reaction.

Shellfish is chief amongst rare foods like strawberries and some nuts, that along with several irritating phenomena like molds and weeds, or excess dust, including several house pets cause hypersensitive reactions like mild or moderate sneezing, watery eyes, itching or rashes and the likes in several people. Allergic reactions can also be as severe as chest pains, abdominal pains, vomiting, tongue swelling, or worse still, unconsciousness.

Severe reactions like anaphylaxis can cause shock and death in the absence of immediate medical attention. There are some quick reactions, and there are some delayed ones that can take up to twenty-four hours before the first symptoms appear.

The more the exposures to an allergen, the more severe a reaction is likely to be, even if the exposure becomes less. Environmental and pet allergies requires treatment like antihistamines and decongestants, or in some cases, immunotherapy and asthma treatment, to suppress symptoms.

When exposure to bee stings, shellfish, poison ivy, and peanuts occurs, severe reactions often follow; so they need to be circumvented whenever you can. In case of an unplanned exposure to an allergen, some grown ups and even younger ones have adopted the practice of carrying an Epi-Pen to check severe reactions.

Emergency administration can be achieved by the Epi-Pen using epinephrine stored in a pre-filled syringe that is a part of the contrivance. By simply pulling off the needle guard, the substance in the Epi-Pen is ready for injection into any large muscle such as the thigh. Save time and administer the Epi-Pen through your clothes if you must; it isn't a problem.

As soon as a person begins to have an allergic reaction, you must keep your eyes on him. Only emergency treatment is appropriate the moment you realize that the Epi-Pen is not working, or that that victim simply isn't getting better after five minutes.
